2021

Introducing Kavalan banner material

VGL replaces all banner products with PVC-free and recyclable Kavalan, a material that delivers the same high standard and functional performance, without compromising on quality, strength or fire ratings.

2019

FESPA - Best In Show 2019

Celebrating print excellence, the FESPA Awards cover a range of applications. We were recognised for innovation, high standard of quality and contribution to the industry. VGL is proud to have won Best in Show 2019. We not only received best in show but we were also awarded the Gold Winner position.

2017

The arrival of creative relief textured printing

Our Acuity HS Select 5220 is the first machine of its kind to operate in the UK.

2015

The fastest flat bed ever.

VGL install the latest in flatbed printing technology the Onset R40i.

2012

Investment in innovation

We install the new Rho P10 320R – the first in the UK – and a 2nd Rhotex 320R, giving us unrivalled production.

2011

Two great new machines

Installation of second Onset S20 – printing at a speed of 310 square metres an hour, and the Durst Rhotex 320 arrives – the first printer for the industrial soft signage sector.

2009

VGL introduce the Inca Onset S20

Another step up in VGL delivering exceptional quality graphics, with flat bed prints, produced at industrial speeds with virtual photographic reproduction.

2007

O2 Rebranding

Full rebranding of the O2 creating stunning interiors for the VIP lounges.

2006

Addition to our small format offering with the arrival of our second HP Indigo Multistream S2000

The compact Multistream prints onto paper, card, clear plastics and self adhesive vinyls. Small format is now a busy part of our promotional display business and POS.

2004

Largest photographic output in the world.

VGL introduces photographic production to its technologies with the arrival of the Lightjet 500XL.

2001

Installation of first flat bed printer — Inca Eagle 44H

Used to great effect, printed direct to plywood for the award winning signage for Sainsbury’s Market concept. Our first foray into retail graphics - it’s now our largest sector.

2000

10,000 square metres and still the biggest wrap ever

Edgar Davids Euro 2000 has set the benchmark for awe-inspiring graphics. It’s an award winner and still a record breaker.

More outdoor media milestones

The full train wrap for Guinness is another first for VGL.

1995

Walker’s Crisps 400+ vehicles

A combination of screen and digital technologies were combined to proof and produce a new identity for over 400 vehicles. We’re now responsible for a growing number of vehicle fleets

VGL are the first graphics company to receive quality recognition

VGL are proud to be awarded BS5750 Pts I and II

VGL introduce CAD/CAM beds

The arrival of CAD/CAM beds represented a new level of quality for producing lettering and logos

Move to Maidenhead

Success means a move to a 2500sq ft factory in Denmark Street Maidenhead.

The investment of two new printers - The Durst Rhotex 325: big, bold and perfect for fabric solutions, and the Durst 2500 S flatbed printer: versatile, with enhanced print quality.

2020

Making it through COVID-19

A difficult year to say the least but VGL have continued to work hard and push forward during this time. Supporting essential businesses and helping to create safe environments following government guidelines.

Our latest investment into flat bed technology

VGL install our first Durst flat bed printer. The P5 250 HS is the first of its kind in the UK.

Expanding our capabilities

VGL invests in the new state of the art Durst Rho 512R machine.

2012

Olympics

To celebrate being awarded the 2012 Games, LOCOG commissioned an outdoor campaign to get the nation behind their goal of delivering the best possible Olympic and Paralympic games.

2011

Move to Smallmead

Our third site. Now home to some of our largest machines, as we continue to invest and grow and specialise further in exceptional printing of large-format graphics.

2010

VGL purchase a 2,230sqm factory

VGL's new factory takes total production space to over 6,000sqm, enabling investment in new Durst 500R - a superwide roll to roll UV printer.

2008

Digital now prints white.

VGL Install the Durst Rho 160R and the Durst Rho 320R – both now print white - a great addition to our digital offer.

2007

VGL launch Surface View

A unique image and design service that inspires creativity, helping individuals introduce flair and personality to their interiors.

2005

Soft Signage comes to VGL

We install the Artistri, a Japanese machine for the production of photo realistic images using dye sublimation onto textiles.

2003

Continual investment in technology

A busy time with the introduction of 3 roll to roll printers Frescos HiQ machines and Vutek 2360 8C Ultra Vu.

2000

Award Winning

VGL were awarded Print Week's Innovative Printer of the Year.

Elgar Road

Acquire and develop a new digital facility, the 25,000sq ft factory in Elgar Road.

Revolution in outdoor media

VGL produces UK’s first full wrap media bus, for TDI

1994

VGL are awarded for the one off launch vehicle for Virgin Cola with full colour bespoke prints

The groundbreaking Xerox 8954 is put to good use creating full colour bespoke prints to produce a one off launch vehicle for Virgin Cola.

Welcome to Reading

VGL moves to Reading and the acquisition of a 16500 sq ft factory unites all aspects of their business

Installation of revolutionary Spacematic®

The Spacematic was the world’s first computer operated machine for producing pre-spaced letter sets - it was a revolution in signage

1976

It all started in an attic above a sweet factory

Former apprentice letterpress compositor Ted Ayerst founded VGL (Jadecal Signs) having seen the potential of pre-spaced lettering for marking signs and vehicles
